What you need to know:

  • Many residents of Murang’a are not freely enjoying a major source of clean water in the county.
  • The trees in Uhuru Park should be labelled by their botanical and other names for people to learn more about them.

Donations • The Catholic Church’s rejection of President William Ruto’s and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s donations is hypocritical, says Eliab Otiato. “Nairobi Archbishop Phillip Anyolo shouldn’t judge others. In the church, there are thieves and robbers who contribute their sadaka (offering) or pay tithes with stolen money, which has never been returned to them.” His contact is [email protected].

Insecurity • On the horrifying tales of the plight of people in remote bandit-prone Baringo North, BJK Karingithi says he still can’t believe these are fellow Kenyans and not refugees. “These children of a lesser god deserve urgent and unconditional support from the national government, not just well-wishers or international agencies. This is the shame of our nation!” His contact is [email protected].

No water • While Murang’a County is a major source of clean water even for Nairobi, Moses Kariri is disappointed that many poor locals are not freely enjoying this God-given resource. Says he: “The cost is too high for many families, with their members opting to fetch water from rivers.” He’s accusing the local water company staff of not being helpful. His contact is [email protected].

Animal rights • Even though Safaricom’s road show in Nairobi to entertain and reward loyal customers was a good idea, Joseph Kamau was put off by the poor handling of the livestock and chicken gifts. Says he: “Those involved ignored basic animal handling rules. It was also callous to hear recipients being loudly told to slaughter them. This is mistreating animals.” His contact is [email protected].

Tree labelling • During his recent walkabout at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, Gerishom Majanja says he was impressed by the rich variety of trees in the recreational area. The trees, he pleads, should be labelled by both their botanical and other names for people to learn more about them. “Youth born and raised in Nairobi will be able to acquaint themselves with the trees.” His contact is [email protected].

Have a tree-loving day, won’t you!
