Insecurity issues have profoundly affected peace and stability in some regions, paralysing day-to-day activities while leaving many in fear. Many attacks have been reported, with people losing their lives as others are seriously injured.
In the Rift Valley, banditry attacks have increased. The bandits attack and kill civilians, government officials and even security officers.
These attacks have left many dead and others injured, while those who survive live in fear of attacks. This hindered the residents from carrying out their activities, including herding and running businesses.
Despite the presence of security installations in that region and an ongoing multi-agency operation, attacks have continued, raising concerns. A few days ago, two chiefs were killed by bandits in separate incidents.
On the other hand, Northern Kenya regions have experienced Al-Shabaab attacks. This insecurity has hindered development in the region, leaving it lagging behind others.
On Sunday, at least six National Police Reservists were killed in an attack in Fafi, Garissa County, that left four others injured.
Peace restoration is key for the country’s progress. The Ministry of Interior and National Administration must step up and enhance security.

In a recent incident, armed raiders attacked Baragoi area in Samburu County, engaging the locals in a gun battle before driving away with hundreds of cattle.
Theft and terrorising of residents by gangs have also been on the rise, with cases reported in Diani.
Unemployment and economic hardship have majorly contributed to the escalating insecurity. There is need for sustainable solutions targeting youth empowerment to curb this.
Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen should deploy security officers in affected areas.
The signed memorandum between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga should also help to create employment opportunities for the youth and thus curb insecurity.
