Police have launched investigations to establish the mystery surrounding the brutal murder of two young men at Kamiuu village in Embu County.

The duo was found hacked to death on Tuesday night at around 11 pm, and their badly mutilated bodies dumped in a thicket.

Residents stumbled upon the victims lying in pools of blood and reported the matter to Embu West Police Station where detectives are trying to establish the motive behind the killings which left the residents reeling in shock.

It was not immediately clear where the victims were coming from, who they were with and how they were killed.

"We have commenced investigations with a view of establishing who killed the victims who are yet to be identified and the motive behind the heinous act," said Embu West Sub-county police boss Mr Zachary Omae.

According to Kamiuu location chief Sammy Mugo, he received information on the killings and rushed to the scene, only to find the duo lying dead with deep cuts.

"We suspect the victims were suspected to have been criminals who were fatally attacked by unknown people. However, investigations will reveal the truth of the matter," said Mr Mugo.

The administrator said it was sad that two young lives had been lost, adding that murder was a criminal offence punishable by the law.

The bodies of the victims are lying at Embu Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting identification and postmortem examination.

Residents said they heard screams at night and ran to the scene and found the two had already been eliminated.

"We are still in shock following what transpired in our village, detectives should get into the bottom of the matter," one of the residents Mr Patrick Nyaga said.

Another resident Mr Johnson Maina told detectives to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves and expose the killers.

"The victims are strangers to us but the killers should not go unpunished,” Mr Maina said.
