Two pedestrians were crushed to death and another one seriously injured after they were hit by a car that lost control on Christmas day in Kianjokoma, Embu County.

The survivor who suffered head and leg injuries was rushed to Embu County hospital and admitted in critical condition.

Witnesses said the three young men, aged between 18 and 20, were walking along the road when they were ran over by a private car that veered off the road.

Two of the victims died on the spot but the third one survived and was rescued by local residents.

Embu County Woman Representative aspirant Jane Karimi Mwaniki identified one of the victims as her relative.

"I have learnt of his untimely death with great shock," she said as she urged the police to ensure sanity is restored on local roads during the festive period.

Area deputy county commissioner, Mr George Omollo, said investigations into the accident had commenced.

"We would like to establish the actual circumstances under which the crash occurred."

The driver of the vehicle survived with injuries.

The accident caused a major traffic jam along the Kavutiri-Embu road.
