Senior police officers in Nyanza on Thursday afternoon visited the family of slain high school teacher Albert Ojwang to offer their condolences.
In what appeared to be an attempt to mend relations between the family and security forces, Nyanza Regional Police Commandant Gisiri Nyamohanga led a delegation of top officers to Ojwang’s home in Kakoth Village, Kokwanyo Location, Homa Bay County.

Ojwang was arrested at his parents' home on June 14, 2025, and initially held at Mawego Police Station. He was later transferred to Nairobi, where he died under unclear circumstances.
Public outrage followed with protests targeting Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, who has since stepped aside to allow for probe. Political leaders and Kenyans have demanded the dismissal of officers involved in Ojwang’s arrest, transfer and murder.
Despite widespread criticism, police officers were among the many who visited the bereaved family, often bringing food and other supplies.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem, who was also part of the Thursday delegation, said the officers wanted to show solidarity with the family.
“We brought various food items to support the family during this difficult time. The regional commander contributed 70 per cent of the donations,” he said.
Items delivered included rice, sugar, flour, milk and vegetables.
Mr Koilem also said that officers, many of whom were on leave following Madaraka Day celebrations, regrouped to make the visit. He emphasised the visit was solely to express sympathy.
Meanwhile, construction is underway to build a house for the blogger’s father, Meshack Opiyo. The project has reached the lintel stage.
