Homa Bay County is set to inaugurate its first State Lodge, enhancing its profile on the national stage.
The State Lodge, situated next to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Homa Bay Town, has been built on previously underutilised government land and will be the Western Kenya region's fifth.

The project started earlier this year in anticipation of the county hosting the 2025 Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1.
The compound has a main building designated for presidential use and several auxiliary structures for staff and security personnel. It is secured with a perimeter wall topped with razor wire and an electric fence.

It can be accessed through multiple gates, with the main entrance linking it to the improved Homa Bay-Kendu Bay Road.
The lodge's establishment has spurred infrastructural enhancements in the surrounding area. Roads leading to the facility, including those around Raila Odinga Stadium and Tom Mboya University, have been rehabilitated, easing transportation.

Resident Tom Omollo attributed the upgrade of various roads to the establishment of the State Lodge.
Residents say the lodge will spur growth and create opportunities in the town, and they are looking forward to employment opportunities arising: groundskeepers, cleaners, drivers and other staff.
"The presence of the State Lodge will undoubtedly elevate our town's status and provide avenues for economic growth," said Melvin Otieno.

A State Lodge is a secondary residence for the head of state and provided accommodation for the president during official tours. They are equipped to host high-level meetings and retreats.
Currently, there are 10 other State Lodges: in Eldoret, Sagana, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kitale, Rumuruti, Bungoma, Kilifi, Cherang’any and Kisii.
State Lodges are different from State Houses, which are the primary official residences of the President that serve as both administrative centres and living quarters for the head of state. Kenya has three: in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru.
