The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has recommended the arrest of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo and seven others on charges of kidnapping, grievous bodily harm and armed robbery.

His alleged accomplices include Abdullahi Jaldesa Banticha, who is leading a parallel county assembly as speaker, Dade Boru, Abdirashid Ali Diba alias Ngila, Abdinur Dima Jiilo, Ahmed Duale, Josephat Mwangi Komu, and Yusuf Maina.

According to the DPP, CCTV footage places the eight individuals at the scene of the kidnapping of former Isiolo Health Chief Officer Abdirahman in Maanzoni in June.

The matter was reported at Kiyumbi DCI in Machakos and referred to the DPP in Nairobi for review.

"On the material day, former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health, Abdirahaman Mohamed and 15 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) supporting the Governor’s impeachment were at Outbark Hotel in Maanzoni, Machakos County. The Governor and his supporters later arrived at the venue and, acting on his instructions, forcibly disarmed and attacked Mr. Abdirahaman. He was bundled into a vehicle and kidnapped," the DPP alleged in a statement.

The governor is specifically accused of threatening Mr Abdirahman before ordering his accomplices "to move him to the Ruai Sewage area, where he was blindfolded, beaten, and abandoned."

The eight are alleged to have robbed Mr Abdirahaman of a licensed Glock pistol with 15 rounds, an iPhone 16, Sh70,000 in cash, and personal belongings.

However, Governor Guyo has since obtained anticipatory bail, blocking the DCI and the DPP from arresting him.

On August 27, Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony of the Kiambu High Court certified Guyo’s application urgent and barred his arrest in connection with he offence of robbery with violence.

The Isiolo Governor, who spoke following the order of his arrest, dismissed the matter as politically motivated.

"Throughout my life, I have never robbed anyone, nor have I ever been accused of such a crime. It is unfortunate that politics can be taken to this level. Nevertheless, we are fully prepared to prove our innocence," Governor Guyo said.
