Manhunt begins for man who raped, murdered daughter in Kajiado
Police in Kajiado South have launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly defiled and killed his first-born daughter at Isinet town on Monday night.
Kajiado South sub-County Police commander Kiprotich Chekwony on Tuesday said preliminary investigations indicated that the 14-year-old girl, a Grade 8 pupil, was defiled and strangled in her father’s matrimonial bed.
Mr Chekwony said the man had returned home on Monday after months of absence and an altercation ensued between him and his wife.
Police said the wife fled after he threatened to kill her.
The suspect is said to have left the home in a huff to an unknown destination only to resurface at night.
The couple lived with their two daughters, including the deceased, in a rental. The middle-aged suspect is believed to be a Tanzanian and was reported to have gone into hiding after committing the heinous act.
The mother was reported to be in shock, struggling to come to terms with her daughter’s death.
"We have been able to gather that the couple had disagreed earlier in the day prompting the mother to seek refuge in a neighbour’s house on Monday night,” Chekwony said.
“When the man returned and found the first-born daughter and her younger sister alone, he is suspected to have raped her leaving her unconscious. The suspect is said to have locked out the deceased sister outside the house during the incident. We are hopeful the postmortem examination will reveal what happened.”
The police boss said police officers are trying to track the suspect using his phone's signal but it has since been switched off.
"We suspect the suspect might have crossed to the neighboring Tanzania but we are trailing him,” he added. The body has been moved to Loitokitok Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
