Detectives in Kiambu are investigating a case where a man allegedly attacked his wife before dying by suicide in Kikuyu area on Monday morning.

According to the DCI, Peter Mondo Mbaria, 52, assaulted his wife in their house and left her in a pool of blood before rushing to hang himself on an avocado tree within the neighbourhood.

Omondo's father told detectives that he woke up in the morning and found that his son had died after hanging himself on a tree at Steel Rolling area within Kikuyu Township, about four kilometres from the Kikuyu police station.

Lying on their bed unconscious

After retrieving the body, detectives checked the deceased's house and found his wife Elizabeth Wairimu lying on their bed unconscious and in a pool of blood.

She also had suffered multiple injuries.

She was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital in serious condition.

"It was established that the victim committed suicide after attacking his wife where he seriously assaulted her," said the DCI.

The deceased's body was moved to PCEA Kikuyu Hospital awaiting a postmortem.
