Rabai MP William Kamoti killed in Mnarani road crash

Rabai Member of Parliament William Kamoti has died in a road accident

Rabai Member of Parliament William Kamoti has died in a road accident.

Kilifi North police boss Jonathan Koech said the accident occurred at Mnarani black-spot on the Kilifi-Mombasa Highway on Sunday evening.

The MP was on Sunday cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to defend his seat on an Orange Democratic Movement party ticket in the August 9 polls.

According to witnesses, the legislator’s vehicle was hit by a lorry at around 9.40pm. His driver, who sustained injuries, is admitted to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital. The MP’s body was moved to the hospital’s mortuary.

Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire told the Nation.Africa that Kilifi County had lost a great leader.

“We were in contact with him as he presented his documents to IEBC today. The first responders at the scene said the (MP's) vehicle rolled after it was hit by a truck," Mr  Mwambire said.

“The death has hit us hard. Mr Kamoti was one of the most aggressive ODM leaders in Kilifi and it is a huge loss,” he added.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi described the lawmaker as a devoted and hardworking leader.

“Mr Kamoti  will be remembered for his non-confrontational leadership style which saw him earn admiration from many people beyond his constituency. This enabled him to achieve a lot for the people of Rabai Constituency. As a county, we have lost a devoted and hardworking leader,” Governor Kingi said.
