On July 2, 2025 the worst happened to three members of the same family from Rukanga village in Kirinyaga county.
They all perished in a road accident near Mutithi town in Mwea Constituency.
Relatives are now trying to come to terms with the deaths of their loved ones following the tragic accident which left everyone reeling in shock.
Those who lost their lives are Jackson Mwangi, 20, and his mother Susan Wanjiru, 45, as well as his grandmother Beth Wanjiru,75.
According to the family spokesman John Gakotho the three were on a motorcycle going back home after the mention of a defilement case involving Mwangi when the accident took place.
"Mwangi was facing a charge of defilement and his mother, together with his grandmother, had accompanied him to court. However, as they travelled back home, the motorcycle collided with a matatu and all the three family members died on the spot," Mr Gakotho recounted.
Mr Mwangi, who was out on bond, was riding the motorcycle before the fatal accident which claimed the lives of the three family members.
"We have been thrown into mourning following what happened, we have been left in great pain," added Mr Gakotho.
"We don't have money to buy coffins and for transportation of the bodies and we need help urgently," said Mr Gakotho.
"I know the deceased persons very well and I was taken aback when I was informed of what happened to them," be said.
Mr Gaitho said the cruel hand of death has dealt a big blow to the bereaved family. He asked local leaders to assist in burial arrangements.
"It will be a very expensive task to bury the victims and the leaders should help to make the exercise successful," said Mr Gaitho.
A relative, Beatrice Mukami, said she was at home when she received news of the fatal road crash.
"I didn't believe that my relatives were dead until I saw their bodies," said Ms Mukami.
Mwea West Sub-County police said the three family members were heading towards Makutano when their motorcycle collided head-on with a matatu which was coming from the opposite direction.
A witness, Michael Njue, said he heard bang and rushed to the scene, only to find the three already dead.
