Nine injured in Sagana-Kagio Road accident

Nine people have been hospitalised following a road accident on the Sagana-Kagio Road in Kirinyaga County.

The victims suffered hand, leg and head injuries when a 14-seater matau collided head-on with a private car at Tuthamba area on Thursday night.

According to the witnesses the matatu was heading to Nairobi from Kerugoya when it collided with an oncoming car from the opposite direction.

During the 9pm accident, the victims, who were trapped in the mangled vehicles, were rescued by the police and residents.

Residents said they rushed to the accident scene after hearing a loud bang only to find the victims groaning in pain.

The accident victims are admitted in a critical condition.

A resident, Peter Muriithi said the victims were lucky to escape alive.

“It was a bad accident but no one perished. However some of the victims sustained leg and hand fractures," said Mr Muriithi.

The wreckages of the vehicles were towed to Sagana Police station as police commenced investigations into the accident.
