A political realignment is taking shape in Gusii region, with Kisii Governor Simba Arati leading a coordinated push to consolidate support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid ahead of his visit to the region next week.
Flanked by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and National Assembly Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro on Wednesday, Mr Arati signaled a shift toward a more structured, pro-government political front, one aimed at unifying the Gusii vote under a development-driven agenda while neutralising fragmentation within the region.
At the centre of the emerging formation is Governor Arati who is increasingly positioning himself as the region’s key political anchor balancing local influence with national alignment.
“We must speak with one voice as a region. Our strength lies in unity and in aligning ourselves with a leadership that can deliver tangible development,” Governor Arati said.
The remarks underscored a broader strategy to tie Kisii’s political future to the national government’s development framing support for President Ruto not just as loyalty, but as a choice for resource mobilisation and infrastructure growth.
Returning to the county after a month-long absence, Mr Arati seized the moment to reinforce his development credentials presiding over the commissioning of road construction machinery in a highly symbolic show of state backed progress.
“Development is not a promise it is what we are delivering. The equipment we are flagging off today will directly transform our roads, open up our economy, and create opportunities for our people,” he said.
The county’s acquisition of 20 tippers, two tankers and two truck movers is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs, a move the county boss framed as both an economic intervention and a political statement on inclusive governance.
“This is how leadership should work ensuring every corner of our county feels the impact. Let us not be distracted by noise or division. The future of this region depends on the choices we make now. We will remain focused, united, and deliberate in our direction,” he declared.
His allies amplified the message, warning against political drift while reinforcing the need to rally behind the government.
On his part CS Ogamba urged residents to resist competing political narratives that could weaken the region’s bargaining power.
“We must be strategic. Development comes from engagement and alignment, not isolation,” he said.
“Politics is dynamic, but unity is constant. In the end, we will all move in the same direction for the good of our people,” he said.
