Matiang’i seeks Gusii region ‘six-piece’ vote to secure all seats in 2027

Jubilee Presidential flag bearer, Dr Fred Matiang’i, has said he will soon meet all Party aspirants in the Gusii region to push six-piece voting and back only Jubilee candidates in 2027.
Speaking on Saturday during a church service in Kitutu Masaba Constituency, where he joined the family of Justice Stephen Riechi in mourning his mother, Dr Matiang’i said that unity within the Gusii community was more critical than ever as national political realignments gather pace ahead of the next General Election.
"Here in Gusii we will do 100 per cent Jubilee. Our party is Jubilee. It's our house and we will open our offices soon. And I will convene a meeting for Jubilee aspirants so that we agree how to move forward," said Dr Matiang'i said.

He was accompanied to the event by Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni, his Kisii counterpart Richard Onyonka and Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo.
"Let us warn our people not to be divided by politics. There are aspirants in other areas; why is he (President) not going there but is always here? Even if they swear and threaten, I will not retreat. If they bring money to bribe you, eat it but vote wisely," he added.
The former Cabinet Secretary said the country was headed in the wrong direction due to skewed development, theft of public coffers and retrogressive politicking.
“The amount of money being brought in as handouts in Kisii is huge. They are looking for every influential person from the community to entice them so that they abandon me,” Dr Matiang’i said.
He accused the government of deploying state resources, including helicopters, to make frequent visits to his backyard in a bid to weaken his influence in the region.

This remark came hot on the heels of reports that the office of the Deputy President Kithure Kindiki blew up over Sh300 million as air transport in a matter of months.
“They are coming with choppers to entice our people to abandon me. Who has sent our people there to go and abuse them?” he asked.
Dr Matiang’i said he was not intimidated by the pressure being exerted against him.
“There is nothing that is left to scare me. I will go to the end. I have seen everything except death. How can I fear them?” Dr Matiang’i said.
“Even if I was to fear, how would I fear a non-performer even as our people continue to suffer under poor leadership?”
He also accused the government of widespread wastage and corruption, linking it to the growing hardship faced by families across the country.
“There is too much wastage and that is why children are unable to go to school. The money that was identified for free education was enough, but it has been stolen. They are only good at stealing,” he said.
Calling on the Gusii community to remain firm, Dr Matiang’i said the time had come for the region to proclaim itself politically and work closely with other opposition leaders nationwide.
“Our time has come. Let us stand firm. We will walk together with others in the opposition, and I will bring them here,” he said.

He revealed that he was holding consultations with a number of national leaders as part of efforts to build a broad opposition alliance that will face Dr Ruto in 2027.
“I am in talks with my colleagues such as Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, George Natembeya and others. We will come here and talk to our people,” Dr Matiang’i said.
“I have gone to many places and I have the blessings of the people because God created us; we did not create ourselves and therefore there is nothing to fear,” he added.
Mr Gisairo said the church would play a key role in guiding the political journey ahead.
“The church will lead us in prayers and nothing will stop us in this journey. Let all of us be behind Fred Matiang’i, even those seeking the Kitutu Masaba seat are free to come to Jubilee,” Mr Gisairo said.
“Don’t be afraid that we have come in ahead of you. There will be competitiveness in issuance of party tickets but importantly, we need to ensure that we all support Dr Matiang’i’s bid at the presidency.”
Mr Omogeni said residents there were firmly behind Dr Matiang’i and urged them not to be swayed by what he termed misleading development claims.
“There is no milking as purported. The money is going elsewhere. Even road projects being advertised are not from our region,” Mr Omogeni said.
Mr Onyonka described Matiang’i as disciplined and firm, saying his leadership qualities set him apart.
“The people know that Matiang’i is sober and tough. People would not complain if President Ruto was performing well and that is why Kenyans need a change,” he said.
