Vincent Bosire Nyambunde, the medical intern whose body was found with that of his girlfriend, while holding hands, was a quiet man who kept to himself, his colleagues at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) say.

His body and that of Angela Moraa, a woman who had reportedly returned to the country from the US a few days earlier, were found inside an apartment in Nyamataro area, Kisii County.

Workmates say Mr Nyambunde, 29, was a self-driven person who dutifully discharged his responsibilities during his time at KTRH.

“He wasn't talkative. He mostly avoided large groups, paid more attention to his work. He was secretive about his personal life and also avoided confrontations with colleagues,” Mr Nyambunde's colleague, who did not want to be named, told Nation.Africa.

The workmate noted that a few days before the bodies were discovered, Mr Nyambunde had become even quieter at work. During this period, he says, Ms Moraa would visit him at the hospital to check on him.

“He appeared stressed and unsettled, but he continued discharging his duties. That woman who died alongside him came to see him at work frequently. However, he never told us who she was. But when their photos started circulating online after their deaths, we were able to recognise her face. It is then we realised that they had been lovers,” he added.

Mr Nyambunde's other friends at KTRH described him as an intelligent person who was destined for greatness in future.

The hospital's CEO, Dr Oimeke Mariita, did not respond to our calls and text messages when we reached him for comment on the matter.

The duo's mysterious death has surprised many people who knew the medical intern. Their bodies were found laying flat on a bed. Near the bodies were used medical needles and syringes.

They were discovered after the smell from their decaying bodies attracted neighbours' attention, who then alerted police.

Those who entered the house after police broke down its doors claim the state of decomposition on Ms Moraa’s body was more advanced, leading to speculation that the two might have died on different days.

Their bodies were taken to KTRH mortuary ahead of a post-mortem.

Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kases said an investigation into the deaths is underway.
