Residents of Lamu are hopeful for improved healthcare following the launch of various government projects and the delivery of medical equipment worth over Sh100 million.
Among the key upgrades is a new CT scan machine installed at the Lamu King Fahd County Referral Hospital.
The machine was delivered and installed by Sunview Medipro International. This marks the first phase of a large-scale rollout of advanced medical equipment in public health facilities across national, county and sub-county hospitals in Kenya.

The project is part of the National Equipment Service Program (NESP) under the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Council of Governors.
The programme aims to have 98 diagnostic imaging CT scan machines (two per county), two diagnostic mammogram machines, 400 operating theatres and 400 laboratories countrywide.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also launched several other key health projects at Lamu King Fahd County Referral Hospital, including a five-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) costing Sh25 million, a fully equipped private hospital wing named ‘Timamy Suites Private Wing’ worth Sh19 million, and an oxygen plant valued at Sh44.5 million.
At the Mokowe Health Centre, CS Duale inaugurated a comprehensive eye centre and a physiotherapy unit.
“I commend Lamu for the tremendous work in improving its healthcare facilities. This is the first time Lamu has a modern ICU, a state-of-the-art oxygen plant, and an advanced CT scan machine. As the national government, we will continue to collaborate with county governments to ensure Kenyans receive quality healthcare under President William Ruto’s administration,” said Mr Duale.

The CS also clarified that no health facility in Lamu has been shut down or suspended due to non-compliance with Social Health Authority (SHA) regulations during the ongoing nationwide crackdown. However, he urged the public to report any fake facilities or unlicensed practitioners.

“I congratulate Lamu residents for registering in large numbers with SHA. As you know, crackdowns are underway nationwide targeting ghost facilities, quacks, and misused public funds. Fortunately, none were found in Lamu. Let us work together to build a health system that is affordable, accessible, and accountable for every Kenyan,” he added.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving public services particularly in healthcare.

Sunview Medipro CEO Sirat Amin noted that the installation of equipment such as the upgraded CT scan in public hospitals represents a major milestone in Kenya’s efforts to decentralise access to specialised healthcare and achieve Universal Health Coverage.
Other hospitals that have already received equipment under the programme include Mandera County Referral Hospital, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu, Kerugoya County Referral Hospital and Wajir County Referral Hospital.
Mr Amin added that the initiative goes beyond equipment delivery to include installation, setup, comprehensive training, maintenance, spare parts, consumables and continuous technical support to ensure optimal healthcare service delivery.
