Residents of Kaumoni village in Matungulu, Machakos County are in shock after a couple hanged themselves on Sunday.
The bodies of Dennis Pius, 28, and his 19-year-old lover Susan Ndeto were found hanging in a house days after they travelled from Nairobi.
Area Assistant Chief Ruth Mwende Ngungu confirmed the incident.
An eye witnesses said that the two have been living together in Nairobi’s Kayole estate and arrived at their rural home on Friday.
“They just came after the President lifted the travel restrictions from the capital,” said the witness.
HOUSE WENT SILENT
According to the eye witness the two were seen in the morning and none of them seemed to have issues but the room went silent as from lunch time.
Later, Ms Ndeto’s mother said that she went on a frantic search for her daughter after several calls to her phone went unanswered.
She travelled from Nairobi to the village where her worst fears were confirmed when she found the two bodies hanging from the roof of the house in their bedroom.
When the bodies were found, Ms Ndeto, who was naked, was kneeling with rope on her neck while Mr Pius, who was dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, was almost standing.
ELOPED
The motive of the suspected suicide is yet to be established.
The two lovers, according to neighbours, were seen chatting happily only to go mute inside their two-roomed house at about 1 pm Sunday.
However, Ms Ndeto’s mother said the two had eloped from Kayole.
The bodies were taken to Kangundo Hospital mortuary as investigation into the deaths begun.
