Sister Anselimina Karimi who is believed to have been murdered on the night of October 11, 2025 in Meru.
A Catholic nun is the prime suspect in the brutal murder of a fellow nun, who is believed to have been killed on Saturday night and her body dumped in her house.
Sister Anselimina Karimi, 65, who has been the administrator of Meru Children's Home, Nkabune, in the outskirts of Meru town, was found lying on her back in her house on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
Speaking to Daily Nation over the phone, Imenti East Sub-county Police Commander confirmed the incident saying the DCI's Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau had moved in to probe the murder.
According to a senior police officer who is not authorised to address the media, the prime suspect is a fellow Catholic nun who had just been transferred to the children's home to take over from the Sister Karimi.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the sister may have been murdered elsewhere and the body brought to her house.
"The deceased was found in her dining room lying on her back. The body was oozing blood from the ears, nose and mouth. There was blood on her clothes and one of the house curtains. She was murdered by being hit with a blunt object on her head. We believe she was murdered elsewhere and the body brought back to the house because her clothes had black jack seeds," the senior police officer said.
Suspected foul play
According to the police, forensic investigations showed that the late Sister Karimi was at her house until 10pm on Saturday evening. Further investigations have established that her phone was switched off around 11pm and is yet to be found.
Also a point of interest for the DCI investigations team is the finding that the house, where the deceased was lying, had been cleaned tampering with the scene.
According to the police, the suspect, after finding the deceased lying down, called her colleagues and requested that they rush her to Consolata Mission Hospital Nkubu, some 16 kilometres away.
"She was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital. However, it is the family members of the late sister who suspected foul play and reported the matter to Nkubu Police Station," the police officer said.
Investigators are now studying the suspect's phone data to identify her location and communication patterns during the fateful hour.
Police say the family reported the matter since the deceased had previously confided to them that her life was in danger. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
