Lady Maureen's family asks ODM, well-wishers for help with burial

The family of the late Ohangla musician Maureen Akinyi, popularly known as Lady Maureen, has asked for ODM party’s help in granting her a befitting sendoff.
Her father Johannes Odero said on Saturday that the family was struggling to raise funds to secure a burial site following her death earlier in the day.
"We are experiencing a serious cash crunch and going by the Luo community’s traditions, it is taboo to have her remains interred in her father's compound so we have to find an alternative burial site,” said Mr Odero.
He said she will be buried outside the family home should they fail to find a site.
DESOLATE
The singer’s mother, Margaret Akinyi, told the Nation that the death of the 38-year-old left them desolate as they spent the family’s resources on her treatment for three years.
"Lady Maureen did her best for ODM, its leader Raila Odinga and several senior politicians. She was also a staunch supporter of Gor Mahia FC. It is on this note that we plead with the party and other well-wishers to come to our rescue," she told reporters at their home in Kopanga village, Migori County.
Lady Maureen’s younger brother, Brian Otieno, a budding reggae musician, said she mentored him before she fell ill and promised to help him launch his first album.
"We have to bear the loss because it cannot be reversed. My elder sister was my greatest source of inspiration. It's sad that she left without fulfilling the many plans she had for us," he said.
