What you need to know:

  • In May, six gold miners were buried alive at Copper hill gold mine in Nyatike Sub-County after their pit collapsed.

Three gold miners in Migori County were rescued after being trapped in a collapsed pit on Tuesday.

Residents of Dede Division rescued Mr Walter Onyango, Mr Ben Owino and Mr Fredrick Otieno and took them to Dede dispensary in critical condition.

They were later transferred to Migori County Referral Hospital.

CAUTION

Assistant County Commissioner Mima Weche said the soil above them was loose.

"We received information in the morning that three people had been buried alive in Dede Division in Awendo.

"Fortunately, they were saved by residents and rushed to hospital at around noon. The three were mining oblivious of the loose earth hanging precariously above them," Mrs Weche said.

She urged miners to be cautious to prevent such incidents.
