Court frees Aisha Jumwa on Sh4m bail, to surrender passport

Court frees Aisha Jumwa on Sh4m bail, to surrender passport

A court on Friday granted Malindi legislator Aisha Jumwa Sh3 million bond with an alternative of Sh4 million cash bail.

She was also ordered to deposit her passport in court.

Her aide Geoffrey Otieno, with whom she is facing murder charges, was slapped with a Sh1 million bond.

Yesterday, Ms Jumwa pleaded not guilty to murder charges relating to the death of Ms Jola Ngumbao, an ODM supporter who was shot dead in October last year during campaigns for the Ganda Ward by-election.

On Thursday, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had indicated that it would be opposing bond for the duo.

Earlier that day, Mombasa High Court Judge Njoki Mwangi was forced to briefly defer plea taking to allow the DPP's office to avail a missing mental assessment report for Mr Otieno.
