A high-powered delegation led by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Saturday pitched camp at Shelly Beach Grounds in Likoni Constituency, Mombasa County, for a youth and women empowerment programme where Sh8.8 million was raised to support grassroots economic initiatives.
The event, which also served as a political rallying point, drew top government officials including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula , Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.

Deputy President Kindiki delivered President William Ruto’s donation of Sh3 million and added his personal contribution of Sh1.5 million. Farouk Kibet, a close aide of the President, donated Sh1 million, while Mining CS Hassan Joho contributed a similar amount. Several MPs also made personal donations totalling Sh2.25 million.
Among those who pledged support were Didmus Barasa, Mark Nyamita, Emmanuel Wangwe, John Bwire, Florence Omanyo, Sabina Chege, Fred Ikana, Geoffrey Mulanya, Lilian Sioi, Innocent Mugabe, and Bernard Kitur.
DP Kindiki used the platform to laud Mombasa residents for their active enrolment in the new Social Health Insurance Authority (SHIA) scheme, stating that over 65 per cent of residents had already signed up.

“No Kenyan should sell their property to access healthcare. This government has rolled out a new health insurance system to ensure dignity for all,” said Prof Kindiki.
He also announced the re-launch of the Kazi Mtaani youth employment programme in Mombasa from Monday, targeting over 3,000 youth, and promised the revival of Mtongwe ferry services.
Speaker Wetang’ula and Majority Leader Ichung’wah rallied residents to support President Ruto’s development agenda, with the latter warning against tribal incitement.
“This is not a government of shareholders. It is a government for all Kenyans,” said Mr Ichung’wah.
Mining CS Hassan Joho and Sports CS Mvurya also reiterated their support for the empowerment drive and national unity.
DP Kindiki announced a Sh3.2 billion blue economy fund aimed at strengthening Beach Management Units in the coastal counties of Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River, and Lamu, emphasising the provision of larger-capacity engines for artisanal fishing.
The event was punctuated by political calls for President Ruto’s re-election in 2027, with leaders urging residents to rally behind the administration’s development track record.
