Nairobi Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have mourned their colleague, Kariobangi North’s Joel Munuve, who died on Tuesday, April 22, as a dependable leader who spoke his mind and advocated for his constituents.
While calling for clear answers on the cause of death, the leaders asked the public to avoid speculation regarding the circumstances surrounding Mr Munuve's death.
A postmortem is scheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home at 9 am.
"Let no one use the death of our colleague to settle political scores of their own," Minority Chief Whip Mark Ronaldo Mugambi urged, requesting patience until the family releases an official statement regarding the tragedy.
Deputy Minority Whip Joyce Kamau sparked controversy when she questioned whether the death was due to natural causes or assassination.
"We only want to know the cause of Honorable Munuve's death; was it a natural death or was it an assassination?” she asked.
She went on to eulogize the late Mr Munuve as an industrious leader, and one who, even then, maintained his lane as an independent MCA, elected without any attachment to a political party.
"We were elected to represent the people of Nairobi," she stated.
"Let us arise like Honorable Munuve. Let us follow up on the bursaries for the poor kids of Nairobi. Let us know why our garbage contractors have not been paid. Let us know where the money is directed to."
Members of the County Assembly unanimously agreed to reconvene after properly honouring their colleague's memory.
Many emphasized that the most fitting tribute to Mr Munuve would be a renewed commitment to serving Kariobangi North residents and the wider Nairobi community with integrity and accountability.
