Detectives in Kasarani, Nairobi County, have apprehended two men suspected of running an online scam where they posed as female masseuses.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Thursday that the suspects targeted victims through deceptive online ads, promising relaxing massage treatments. However, clients were ambushed and robbed instead.

Before their arrest, they allegedly robbed a client of Sh280,000 during the massage.

The DCI further revealed that the victim, who reported the incident at Kasarani Police Station, explained he was lured to a spa on Lumumba Drive.

“However, moments into the "massage," things took a sharp turn. The two whipped out knives, revealing their true identities and zero massage knowledge. Under duress, the victim was forced to transfer Sh280,000 to the suspects' phone number, robbed of his valuables before being unceremoniously thrown out,” read the report in part.

The victim told police that he responded to an advertisement.

Following the report, detectives launched an investigation and, using forensic evidence, tracked down and arrested the suspects near Kamiti Prison.

The duo wore full makeup and other feminine products to deceive potential clients into believing they were women offering high-end massage services.

In Kenya, the massage business—though quite profitable—has faced increasing stigma and criticism due to its association with illegal activities.

Beyond cases of fraudulent massage therapists, a growing trend involves individuals using their parlours as fronts.

The two are currently in custody pending their arraignment.
