After missing celebrations in the churches due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Christians in different parts of Nakuru County are set to usher in the New Year in places of worship.
Many churches have lined up prayer meetings as they cross over to the New Year.
Unlike last year when there were no celebrations, 2022 will be different as Christians will be allowed in various worship centres across the country.
However, the prayers will be held under strict Covid-19 pandemic restrictions to stop the spread of deadly disease.
'Prophet Dr' David Owuor has set the mood for the New Year as his arrival in Nakuru City on Thursday brought Nakuru's Central Business District to a standstill.
His followers cleaned up the main Kenyatta Avenue street to welcome their 'prophet' who will lead a three-day prayer rally.
Thousands of people have already arrived in the town ahead of the revival meeting that will take place at Nakuru's Menengai grounds.
The arrival of the 'prophet' came with an economic boost to the struggling hospitality industry which has been counting losses due to the pandemic.
'Prophet' Owuor has booked the entire Merica and Bontana hotels at a cost running into millions of shillings. The owner of private grounds where the rally will be held has also pocketed millions of shillings.
Apart from the two top hotels, other local hotels and eateries have benefited from 'Prophet' Owour’s visit to the newest city in Kenya.
“This is a big boon for our hotel which was suffering from a lack of visitors for the better part of this year," said a hotel owner along Kenyatta Avenue.
A tuk-tuk driver, Mr Thomas Kimani was a happy man as he made several trips transporting followers of the 'prophet' to the rally grounds.
"I have never made Sh2,000 on a single day. For the last two days, business has been good since 'Prophet' Owuor arrived in the city, I have managed to take home more than Sh4,000," said Mr Kimani.
Other mainstream churches like the Catholic Church, PCEA, ACK, Full Gospel and evangelical churches like CITAM, Deliverance and kingdom Seekers among others have also lined up special prayers in the churches to usher in the New Year.
