Dead cows trigger protests in Maai Mahiu

Three cows were killed in a hit and run along the Narok-Maai Mahiu on early Friday.

Transport along the Narok-Maai Mahiu road was paralysed for hours Friday morning after locals blocked the highway.

The residents were protesting against the killing of three of their cows in a hit and run incident.

Witnesses said the cows were knocked down by a sand transporter truck early Friday. 

The locals demanded a compensation of Sh120,000 for each cow.

Maai Mahiu assistant county commissioner Dennise Diffu said authorities and the aggrieved parties are trying to resolve the issue amicably.
