‘We won MCA and can get MP in Narok’: Gachagua unveils DCP candidate for Emurua Dikirr minipoll

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) is targeting another seat in Narok County after its victory in the Narok Town MCA by-election last November.
This time, it aims to sponsor a candidate to clinch the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat that was left vacant after Johana Ngeno died in a chopper crash in February.
On Tuesday, the party led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua unveiled its candidate for the May by-election in an event where speakers reiterated that the constituency has typically been an opposition zone.
Mr Vincent Kibet Rotich, a youthful politician, will be DCP’s flagbearer in the race. He was unveiled at an event at the DCP headquarters in Nairobi’s Westlands.
According to DCP’s deputy party leader Cleophas Malala, the choice of Mr Kibet was reached via consensus.
Mr Gachagua said Mr Kibet was a perfect fit.
“The contest is defined. It will be Ruto’s project versus the people’s choice,” he said. “He is 37 years old, he was a chief, and he is loved by the people. He has Ngeno’s blood.”
Coming a week after David Kipsang Keter won the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s ticket for the by-election, Mr Kipsang’s unveiling was done amid calls for him to resist bribery from the government.
“He will be the first DCP lawmaker,” said Mr Gachagua, optimistic of a repeat of DCP’s victory with Douglas Masikonte in November.
“The way Narok made history by producing the first DCP MCA, let it also produce an MP,” said Mr Gachagua to the delegates who had travelled from Emurua Dikirr.
Speakers at the event raised numerous matters that they want the government to address, among them the skirmishes in Ang’ata Barikoi, a volatile area of Narok County, and results of the investigations into Mr Ngeno’s death.
