What you need to know:

  • The suspect attacked the deceased, stabbing him on the chest with a knife.
  • The attacker then turned on his former lover and attempted to stab her too.

After an all-day long toil at the gold mine to fend for his family, the late Ibrahim Ochiel 34, went home and handed over food he bought to his girlfriend to prepare dinner.

He is reported to have proceeded to watch news in the living room of his one bedroomed rented house at Ndira trading center in Bondo sub-county.

Little did he know that a jilted former lover of his girlfriend, identified as Lawrence Oduor 26, had hatched a plan to settle scores for the break-up.

According to Ajigo Sub-Location assistant chief Stephen Aloo, the two men had a romantic relationship with one Cynthia Auma, 20, and on this fateful evening she was in the house preparing an evening meal for the late Ochiel.

Mr Aloo recounted how the suspect attacked the deceased, stabbing him with a knife while in his house with the girlfriend.

“The attacker got into the house that evening and established that his former girlfriend was in the kitchen preparing an evening meal. He attacked the deceased by stabbing him with a knife on the chest. The victim fell and bled to death,” said the administrator.

The enraged attacker then turned on his former lover and attempted to stab her too.

“He turned on the woman who had begun shouting for help after the deceased had been stabbed. The attacker stabbed the woman on her hand, but she managed to escape while shouting for help,” added Mr Aloo.

The administrator further revealed that the two men worked as artisanal miners at the nearby mines.

“They are both working as miners. The two men and the woman are all known within the center,” he said.

The assailant is reported to have fled the scene, with police in Bondo still looking for him.

"Neighbours rushed to the scene when they heard Ms Auma shouting for help. When they reached the house, they found the victim already dead and his attacker gone,” said the administrator.

The body of the deceased man was taken to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary to await postmortem examination while the woman was admitted at the same facility as investigations into the matter and a manhunt for the suspect commenced.
