A driver who was transporting miraa died Friday when the vehicle he was driving overturned at Bangali shopping centre in Tana River County, along the Kitui-Garissa road.

Mr Lawrence Muitho, who hails from Kabaci in Meru County, was heading towards Garissa when he lost control of his Toyota Probox car after a tyre burst. The vehicle rolled several times, injuring him seriously.

He was part of a convoy of four vehicles that had helped retrieve miraa from a lorry that had developed mechanical problems and stalled in Tharaka Sub-County.

His lone passenger escaped unscathed and helped in rescue efforts following the 11am road crash.

However, Mr Muitho, who had suffered multiple fractures, was pronounced dead on arrival at Garissa County Referral Hospital.

“The other person was not injured. He was even calling his colleagues informing us of what was going on. He later informed us that Lawrence had passed on. I was coming back from Garissa when I found the wreckage,” said Ms Dorcas Kathambi who arrived minutes after the car crash.
