A man died on Saturday night in Matakiri location in Tharaka South Sub County after spending Christmas day on a drinking spree with his friends.

Confirming the incident, Matakiri chief, Emanuel Kibunjia, said the deceased, Mr Murimi Mucee, started vomiting and complaining of stomach pain at around 9pm.

According to the chief, Mr Mucee fell unconscious and was rushed to Marimanti Sub County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body of the deceased was moved to the facility's mortuary.

“The deceased had spent the day taking local brew with his friends in the neigbouring Tharaka North Sub County but we are yet to establish whether the liquor is the cause of his death,” Mr Kibunjia said.

The family of the deceased said were informed of the tragic incident by their late brother’s wife, Leah Karoki.

“We rushed our brother to Marimanti Sub County Hospital but unfortunately he was pronounced dead on arrival,” a brother of the deceased said.

Chief Kibunjia said preliminary investigations indicated that none of the people that the deceased was taking liquor with had experienced any problems.

He said police have launched investigations into the incident and there are plans to conduct a postmortem on the body to establish the cause of death.
