Policeman suspected of sodomy to be tried in Embu
Chuka Senior Resident Magistrate Mwanamkuu Sudi has moved the case of a chief inspector of police suspected of sodomising six boys in Chogoria town, Tharaka Nithi County, to Embu.
This is after the prosecution sought the transfer of the case to prevent interference that may compromise justice.
The suspect is now expected to take plea in Embu on Wednesday before a chief magistrate.
The prosecution argued that the respondent had worked as Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Ntumu Police Station in Maara Constituency, which is within the jurisdiction of the Chuka court.
The defence lawyer argued that Runyenjes court, which is also in Embu County, is near Chuka Police Station, where the officer is detained but the prosecution said that after taking plea, he will be held at Embu Police Station.
The officer was arrested on December 22 and produced in Chuka court before Chief Magistrate John Njoroge the following day but the investigating officer sought five days to conclude the investigations.
The officer told the court that the initial investigations showed that the abuse could involve a large syndicate, which investigators needed enough time to unearth.
Asked whether he was against the plea by the investigators, the respondent said he had no objection.
