Nyce Wanjeri is blooming in a fierce, fearless, fashionable and admirable way. An award-winning actress and fashion icon, Nyce earned continental recognition after winning the Best Actress in a Comedy (TV/Series) at the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for her role as Shiru in Auntie Boss.
In 2019, she received the Best Lead Actress in a TV Drama at the Kalasha Awards for her role in the Kikuyu-language series Ithaga Riene , an exceptional fete for Kenyan actresses by any measure.
“I didn’t know my character as Shiru would be so iconic. When Auntie Boss started, I was really afraid. I didn't know how the reception would be. But this is me. Whenever I get any job or character, I do my best because God blesses the work of our hands.”

Once her run was over with Auntie Boss in 2018, Nyce endured some downtime where she had to roll up her sleeves and rewire her craft for the digital age.
“With a camera, raw talent and relentless grit, I began building what has become a vibrant online empire one comedy reel at a time. My loyal community now cheers me on from every corner of the internet.
I didn’t know I was funny. I used to make my cousins laugh, and people kept telling me I was funny while growing up, but I didn’t think much of it. I’m glad that I can be playful and funny while highlighting impactful stories with my content.”
While conquering entertainment heights both on mainstream and social media platforms, a new horizon appeared before her – motherhood.
With her professional foundation firmly set and evolving, she chose when and how to balance her career and her role as a mother perfectly.
“I’m an intentional mother even as I navigate the demanding world of showbiz. My dad wasn't very present because he had to find money for our school fees and stuff and I understand him. My mum was present, but not so much. So, I am keen to give my children the life I desired when I was that age. It doesn't matter how busy I am, I always find time for my children.”
Nyce describes her firstborn daughter as an outspoken, well-mannered, emotionally intelligent and bold Generation Z. Her second child loves attention, just like her.
“I attend forums where parents talk about their children and how best we can bring them up. I always let my children know that life is not easy or fair. They know that beauty will not pay them, they know the basics about sex, about periods…because the world has a lot to say about all those things. If you don't tell them early, kitakuramba.”

On her bold fashion sense, Nyce says her late mother inspired her. Luckily, her husband, singer Leting, also turns heads with his effortless fashion and magnetic presence.
“I love the way I dress, my friend. I do not want to enter a room and look like everyone. How would they know this is Nyce? My mama loved fashion. She used to make clothes with her hands. She loved fashion design and before she passed, I used to say, ‘The moment I get good money, I will buy my mum a good sewing machine.
“If she was alive, I wouldn’t be dressing like this. My style would be phenomenal. Thank God I got a husband who also loves dressing up and wearing things that are not so conventional. When we enter a room we want people to see that we are awesome and open-minded.”
“Once you grow up, you start knowing how mental health is important for personal growth. I have young girls in my house. I have met tons of young women and and many of them look at themselves the way I used to look at myself in my 20s. They have low self-esteem.
“I didn't even know I had childhood trauma, yet it affected my behaviour, thoughts and actions.
“At that age, if I read the books that I'm reading now, I would be a totally different person and my mental health would be better.
“I've started using my platforms to talk about mental health because I've met women who are even older than me but they have not yet mastered themselves. They don’t know that their minds are their biggest assets.”
Nyce has a new song out, titled Mungu Ni Nani, released on her 36th birthday.
"The song was inspired by the many people who, like me, grew up being told they would never amount to much—or that all they could do was go to school, get a job, and play it safe. Society has a way of putting limits on people’s dreams, and this song is a message to break free from that thinking pattern.
Interestingly, the song was written three years ago, around the time we discovered I was pregnant with our second child, Pendo. I recorded it back then and it has always been in my heart.
The song was written by my husband, Leting’, and although he penned the lyrics, the inspiration was drawn from my personal experiences.
Singing it now, on my 36th birthday, just feels right. It’s such a powerful way to reflect on the journey and to share hope.
