Bensoul to star in Manyatta Homecoming show

What you need to know:

  • A special disco party for fans of disco music from the 980s to early 2000s will be held next Saturday at the Rosedale Gardens Kilimani, Nairobi. 
  • A three-day professional Dance Life Festival 2025 will be held from next week weekend (Friday to Sunday) at Hilton Square in Nairobi’s CBD.

A special homecoming show, dubbed Manyatta Homecoming, is set for today (Saturday) in Nanyuki town. The show will feature performances by Bensoul, BM Shaxxy DJ Redbone, Charisma and DJ Slick.

Some of Bensoul’s popular songs include Extra Pressure, Forget You and Namanga. Entrance for the show that has been organised by Balozi East Africa is Sh1,100. The show starts at noon.

Elsewhere, a special disco party for fans of disco music from the 980s to early 2000s dubbed “Back & Forth- Garden Edition School Party’ is set to be held next Saturday at the Rosedale Gardens Kilimani on Rose Avenue in Nairobi. 

DJ Pinye, DJ Kareez and DJ Me Supafly are expected to treat disco fans to the best of music of yesteryears.

The show, organised in partnership with George Grill King & BBQ Bandits, will be a day of great music, nostalgia with friends, and good food. Entrance for the show that starts at 11am is Sh2,000 (advance) and Sh3,000 (advance with corkage).

Dance Life Festival 2025

Meanwhile, a three-day professional Dance Life Festival 2025 will be held from next week weekend (Friday to Sunday) at Hilton Square in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

Among those expected to perform are Davilla Skynnor (Kenya), Pamoja Dance Group (Kenya), Rabia Ngwache (Tanzania), Friends of Hope (Uganda), Leadinho Ankh Chukrani (DRC), Dancing Feet (Kenya), Tony 'Tosedo' Aguko (Kenya), Alessandro Schiattarella (Switzerland) and Alan Alpenfelt (Switzerland).

In the run up to the festival, there have been dance workshops at various venues in Nairobi. The highlight expected to be mixed ability masterclass by Alessandro Schiattarella next Thursday at Goethe Institute.

The festival will bring together a wide spectrum of choreographic voices, including women choreographers, people with disabilities, and artistes from indigenous communities.

Rhumba special show

Founded in 2020, the festival, organised by Upstage Limited, is supported by Africalia Belgium, Goethe Institute Kenya, Pro Helvetia, and Urgent Africa.

At the same time, the Village Market at Gigiri in Nairobi will next Saturday host the Chapters and Chai July Edition. Book enthusiasts can team up at Ballpoint Social Club for a special book time with author Jackson Biko, as he gives insights into his latest read, Big Little Fights. Entrance is Sh2,000 and the event starts at 10am.

For Rhumba fans in Syokimau, on the outskirts of Nairobi, a special show dubbed Rhumba Xpression is lined up on Saturday at Alaska Syokimau, on Katani Road.

The show will feature Johnny Junior and his BV Band. Entrance is Sh500 (regular) and Sh1,000 (VIP). The show starts at 6pm.

Meanwhile, Mombasa-based Amitie Musica band - Les Incomparables, led by Crispen Tambwe, perform every Saturday and Sunday at the Maasai Utange in Mombasa.
