Activist Boniface Mwangi charged with unlawful possession of ammunition; two unused teargas canisters and one blank bullet.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a Sh1 million personal bond.

‎His legal team, led by Senior Counsel Martha Karua, requested that the case be transferred to the Milimani Law Courts, arguing that the charges are no longer under the Anti-Terrorism Act and therefore fall outside the jurisdiction of the Kahawa Court.

‎Karua further urged the court to release Mwangi on personal bond, citing his commitment to constitutionalism, human rights, and full cooperation with investigators.

The next court hearing is scheduled for August 21, when the prosecution is expected to present its evidence.

The case has attracted widespread public attention, with civil society and human rights groups raising concerns over what they term as the misuse of anti-terror laws to silence dissent.
