Bus heading to Mombasa bursts into flames

  • The bus belonging to Simba Coach Company went up in flames at 4.00am.

  • Area OCPD Ben Changulo said the bus’ rear tyres caught fire, which quickly spread out.

 At least 47 passengers escaped unhurt after a Mombasa-bound bus caught fire on Wednesday morning.

The bus belonging to Simba Coach Company went up in flames at 4.00am at Kambu in Kibwezi sub-county.

Area OCPD Ben Changulo said the bus’ rear tyres caught fire, which quickly spread out, reducing the bus to ashes.

Mr Changulo said the passengers managed to evacuate their luggage before the entire burst into flames.

The cause of the fire was not immediately established, and police are investigating the incident.

The OCPD appealed to drivers to ensure that vehicles are well serviced and in good condition before they embark on a journey.
