Covid-19: Kenya records 2,444 new cases, 14 deaths
Kenya has recorded 2,444 more positive cases with a positivity rate of 26.4 per cent from a sample size of 9,269 tested in the last 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 2,298 are Kenyans while 146 are foreigners. 1,322 are female and 1,122 are male. The youngest is a three-month-old baby while the oldest is 110 years.
Total confirmed positive cases are now 309,130 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,085,450.
The new infections are distributed in counties as follows; Nairobi 719, Kitui 647, Siaya 105, Nakuru 95, Kericho 76, Kakamega 68, Mombasa 66, Uasin Gishu 65, Kiambu 61, Murang’a 52, Nyeri 51, Embu 41, Busia 34, Machakos 32, Makueni 31, Kirinyaga 28, Kisumu 28, Baringo 27, Kajiado 24, Kilifi 17, Trans Nzoia 17, Narok 16, Kwale 15, Taita Taveta 15, Homa Bay 12, Nyandarua 11, Bungoma 10, Bomet 9, Elgeyo Marakwet 9, Garissa 9, Nandi 9, Migori 8, Nyamira 7, Meru 6, Turkana 5, West Pokot 5, Isiolo 4, Kisii 4, Vihiga 3, Lamu 2, Laikipia 1.
In a statement to media houses on Friday, the Ministry of Health announced that 1,066 patients had recovered from the disease, 1,016 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme while 50 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Total recoveries now stand at 262,133 of whom 212,363 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 49,770 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Further, 14 deaths were reported, one of them having occurred in the last 24 hours while the other 13 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the last one week. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,425.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe also mentioned that 1,208 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 26,324 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.
Further, 46 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 of them on ventilatory support while 20 are on supplemental oxygen. One patient is under observation.
Another 331 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 303 of them are in the general wards. 28 patients are in the High Dependency Unit. According to the CS a total of 10,473,483 vaccines had been administered across the country as of Thursday.
Of these, 5,996,874 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,412,786. Another 23,703 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 40,120 are booster doses.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.5 percent while the proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 16.2 percent.
