Covid-19: Kenya’s cases rise to 95,713 as 91 more recover

Kenya has recorded 282 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising the cumulative number of confirmed positive cases to 95,713. 

While releasing the figures on Friday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new cases were reported from a sample of 4,095 tests.

The cumulative tests in Kenya now stand at 1,029,748.

From the 282 cases, 240 are Kenyans while 42 are foreigners. In terms of gender distribution, he said that 164 are male while 118 are female.

Mr Kagwe said that during the same period, one more patient succumbed to the disease, raising death toll from the virus in Kenya to 1,653.

He also announced that 91 patients recovered from Covid-19 in the same period, raising total recoveries to 76,811. He revealed that 84 of those who recovered were in home-based care while seven were discharged from various hospitals.

The Health CS also revealed that 768 patients are currently admitted to various hospitals in Kenya with another 3,659 being in home-based care. He added that 37 of the patients are in intensive care with 18 being on ventilator support and 17 on supplemental oxygen while the remaining two are on observation.

He said that another 33 patients are on supplementary oxygen, out of whom 26 are in the general wards while seven are in the High Dependency Unit.

In terms of distribution of the new Covid-19 positive cases per county, the CS said that Nairobi led with 143, followed by Mombasa which had 35 cases. Kiambu County recorded 18 cases, Kilifi 12, Uasin Gishu 11, Embu 10 and Kajiado seven cases. Murang'a and Nyeri recorded five cases while Kisumu and Turkana had four cases each.

Garissa, Siaya and Kisii had two cases while Elgeyo-Marakwet, Isiolo, Kitui, Kirinyaga, Laikipia Machakos, Tharaka-Nithi and Trans-Nzoia recorded one case each.
