The government will on Wednesday roll out a national recruitment programme for overseas jobs in all 47 counties.
Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua said there are additional 5,000 positions following the 8,000 jobs in the first rollout.
“For the Qatar exercise, out of the 8,000 jobs that were on offer, we were able to recruit 3,247 Kenyans in round one. Already, as we speak, out of those recruited, 1,500 have received their offer letters and signed them. They have started processing documents to depart,” said Dr Mutua while addressing the media in Kisumu on Friday.
CS Mutua said 5,000 positions are available to Kenyans across counties, providing opportunities to work in various countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Germany, and the Czech Republic, among others.
Addressing concerns about segregation in some countries, Dr Mutua said the bilateral agreement includes laws designed to protect Kenyan workers in such circumstances.
“In the event Kenyans face discrimination, there are legal frameworks in place to safeguard them. Additionally, no one is allowed to leave the country without undergoing a pre-departure session. These sessions prepare individuals by providing information about their destination, cultural integration, handling challenges, and contacting government representatives if necessary,” he explained.

According to the draft programme, the recruitment schedule will kick off in Machakos County on November 20, Makueni County (November 21), Kitui County (November 22), Nakuru County (November 23), and Baringo County on November 25. It will then cover all counties at specific dates. Kisumu County’s recruitment will take place on January 21, and the exercise will conclude in Mombasa.
