A 32-year-old Kenyan has been arrested in the United States after the remains of a woman were found in his car on Friday night.

Nobert Matara was arrested by Aberdeen Police Department after Tracy Nyariki, 31, who was residing in Newark, Delaware, went missing last week.

According to a statement from the police department, Mr Matara was identified by the authorities as 'a potential person of interest' in her disappearance.

"On Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 5PM, officers from the Aberdeen Police Department were asked by the New Castle County Police Department in Delaware to assist in locating a missing person and a potential male homicidal person," reads part of the statement.

Mr Matara's vehicle was found in Aberdeen, Maryland with the suspect (Matara) in the vicinity at the time.

"Officers responded to the 1100 block of S. Philadelphia Blvd and located the homicidal male. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of human remains in a vehicle. The male was later arrested," the statement added.

Police found dismembered human remains in the car and Matara was arrested Saturday night.

They have not released information on how the deceased and suspect knew each other.

Police said they may file additional charges against Matara as the investigation continues.

Last year, another Kenyan man accused of killing his girlfriend in Boston and fleeing to Kenya was extradited back to the United States.

Kevin Kangethe, 42, was accused of killing nurse Margaret “Maggie” Mbitu, whose body was found in a parked car last November at Boston’s Logan International Airport, two days after she was reported missing.

Authorities say he then immediately boarded a flight and fled the country.

For months, the suspect eluded authorities after he arrived in Kenya.

In January, investigators spotted Kangethe at a nightclub in Nairobi and arrested him. He escaped from jail days later and was on the run for a week before he was rearrested in Nairobi in early February.

Kenya has an extradition treaty with the United States.

The preliminary investigation showed she had left her workplace and travelled with Mr Kangethe to Lowell. Mr Kangethe was also found in possession of personal items belonging to the deceased.
