19,000 promotions for teachers up for grabs

What you need to know:

  • TSC said the positions are ranging from chief principals, senior principals, principals, deputy principals, senior lecturers and senior masters.
  • The qualified applicants for these positions must have served as Senior Principal T-Scale 14 for a minimum period of three (3) years.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has invited applications from teachers to fill 19,000 senior administrative vacancies.

The announcement is a reflection of a dire need for teachers in management positions as many teachers have stagnated in the same job groups while others perform duties of administrators but in an acting capacities.

In an advertisement notice, TSC said that the positions are ranging from chief principals, senior principals, principals, deputy principals, senior lecturers, senior masters, secondary teacher I, senior headteacher (special schools), headteachers, deputy headteachers as well as senior teacher positions.

The positions for chief principals are 44. The qualified applicants for these positions must have served as Senior Principal T-Scale 14 for a minimum period of three (3) years; have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal and performance contracting process; have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers and must meet any other requirements deemed necessary by the Commission.

TSC said that three positions are vacant for Chief Principal (TTC) T scale 15, and the applicants interested to be appointment to this grade must have served as Senior Principal T-Scale 14 for a minimum period of three years; must have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal and performance contracting process; and have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

The positions for Senior Principals, regular secondary school (T-SCALE 14) are 126.

Interested applicants for these positions must have served as Principal/ Deputy Principal I, T-Scale 13 for a minimum period of three years; must have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process, and must have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

Three posts are available for Chief Principal (TTC) T scale 14. Interested teachers have been asked to ensure that they have served as Principal/ Deputy Principal I, T-Scale 13 for a minimum period of three years; have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process; and must have demonstrated the ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

A total of 652 posts are up for grabs for Principal T scale 13, and the teachers applying for this grade must have served as Deputy Principal II/Senior Master I, T-Scale 12 for a minimum period of six months.

They must have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process, and must have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

The commission has encouraged teachers who submitted applications principals (Post Primary) 13 D3, in the earlier advertised 755 positions to also consider applying for Principal T scale 13 jobs.

Also, three posts are available for Deputy Principal (TTC) T scale 13, and interested candidates must have served as Deputy Principal II/Senior Master I/ Senior Lecturer I, T-Scale 12 for a minimum period of 6 months, have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process, and should have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

A total of 786 posts are available for Deputy Principal II (Post primary) T scale 12, and some of the requirements demands that the applicants must have served as Deputy Principal III or Senior Master II T-Scale 11 for a minimum period of 6 months, must have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process, and demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

TSC said that all teachers who are currently performing the duties of a principal are encouraged to apply.

The Commission has also announced 3,653 posts for Deputy Head Teacher II (regular primary school) T-SCALE 9.

The positions are open for teachers who have served as Senior Teacher I T- Scale 8 for a minimum period of six months, and have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal.

“All teachers currently performing the duties of Head-Teacher or Deputy Head-teacher are encouraged to apply. Candidates who submitted applications under Advert No. 4/2024 are also encouraged to apply,” TSC said in its advert.

TSC said that that another 1,408 posts are available for Deputy Principal III (post primary) T-SCALE 11. Applicants must have served as Senior Master III T-Scale 10 for a minimum period of six months, and have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process.

Additionally, the commission said that all teachers currently performing the duties of a Principal are encouraged to apply, and that candidates who submitted applications under Advert No. 2/2024 are also encouraged to apply.

Also, 13 positions for Senior Lecturer I (TTC) T-SCALE 12, and the interested candidates must have served as Senior Lecturer II T-Scale 11 for a minimum period of six months, obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process, and have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

Other positions includes Senior lecturer TTC – T scale 11 (32 posts), Senior Master II (two positions), Senior Master III (Regular School) T Scale 10 (1987 posts), Senior Lecturer III (TTC) T-SCALE-10 (61 posts), Senior Master IV (post primary), T-SCALE 9 (2,221 POSTS), Senior Lecturer IV (TTC) T-SCALE 9 (70 posts), 184 posts for Secondary Teacher I (Diploma Teachers in secondary only), T-SCALE 8, ,308 positions for Head Teacher (regular primary), T-SCALE 10, 254 positions for Senior Head Teacher (regular primary), T SCALE 11, a total of 4,708  posts for Senior teacher I (regular primary school– T-SCALE 8, and 1,364 posts for Senior Teacher II (regular primary) – T-SCALE 7.
