To friends and family, Tony Odhiambo Lwal is a university dropout who made lemonade out of lemons by minting enough money from online to sustain a flashy lifestyle in Nairobi’s Kilimani suburb.
Lwal, a relative told the Nation on Thursday, dropped out of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, where he was pursuing a degree in actuarial science to venture into business and politics.
At his age, relatives said, the last-born son in a family of three has done well for himself in life as he is hardworking, affable and generous to a fault.
Tony Odhiambo Lwal has been linked to the death of 22-year-old Consolata Githinji who was a student at Murang’a University College.
“He has even been lending a helping hand to his siblings,” one of his friends told this writer at the Nairobi Funeral Home on Thursday.
But to the police, Lwal is a person of interest who cannot be released from custody until an investigation into the death of 22-year-old Consolata Githinji is completed.
The end of that investigation will determine whether Lwal walks free, or straight to the dock to face murder charges.
Consolata was a Murang’a University College student, pursuing a diploma in health records and information technology.
She died on April 26 2026, succumbing to injuries sustained from a fall off the sixth floor of a short-term rental apartment in Kileleshwa.
A postmortem examination was conducted on Thursday at the Nairobi Funeral Home, witnessed by representatives from the families of Consolata and Lwal. Each of the families hired a lawyer and a pathologist to witness the examination.
After hours of examination, Government pathologist announced that Consolata died of multiple injuries sustained and blunt force trauma.
The pathologist, after the examination, did not state if these injuries were consistent with the fall or were sustained before the fall from the building.
The 22-year-old walked in with Lwal minutes after 4am on that Sunday morning. However, barely an hour later, it was reported that she had fallen three floors down and landing on another unit’s balcony.
As police wrap their minds around the circumstances surrounding Consolata’s death, it has emerged that this is not Lwal’s first tango with the criminal justice system.
When Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers ushered Lwal from the apartment unit at 6:09 am last Sunday, there was already a warrant of arrest for the 33-year-old.
On September 25, 2025 Lwal was presented to the Kibera Law Courts, to face two counts. He was charged with rape in the first count, and committing an indecent act with an adult in the second count.
The offences, according to the charge sheet, had occurred 10 days earlier, in a short-stay apartment along Kindaruma road, in the Kilimani suburb where Lwal lives.
He denied both counts, and was released on free bond before missing the next court appearance. The Kibera Law Courts then issued a warrant for his arrest.
That case, in which a woman from Kasarani accused Lwal of rape, is scheduled for a mention on May 19 2026.
The Nation has also learned that last year, Lwal filed an assault complaint against his wife at the Kilimani Police Station.
His wife, Lwal claimed, had poured hot water on him. It is unclear what prompted the dispute which led to the alleged assault. But days later, Lwal returned to Kilimani Police Station and withdrew the complaint.
When DCI officers arrested Lwal last Sunday morning, he claimed that Consolata had died by suicide.

CCTV footage of the apartment moments before the 22-year-old’s death, and statements recorded by neighbours, indicate that there was a scuffle between Lwal and Consolata. Some of the other apartment residents have stated that there was a commotion.
The CCTV footage showed a security guard walking into the apartment after the commotion started, but left two minutes later.
Curiously, staff from the building told the police that they did not hear any commotion from the room until the woman’s body was found lying in a pool of blood, despite one security guard walking into the unit during a scuffle.
Police said they found the room where the two had checked in in disarray, an indication that there might have been a fight.
Homicide investigators have since taken over the investigations from the Kilimani DCI officers.
Homicide investigators are now expected to provide the crucial evidence that will determine if Githinji jumped to her death or was pushed through the window.
