Gatanga MP Humphrey Kimani to name Kihiu Mwiri land beneficiaries

Gatanga Member of Parliament Humphrey Kimani has said he would name senior government officials illegally allocated land on the controversial Kihiu Mwiri property.
The MP said he had forwarded names of former district officers and commissioners who had been allocated prime land on the 1,085-acre estate.
“I have been shown the land these former officials were allocated. We are waiting for the government to act,” he said.
Mr Kimani was speaking in Maragua during the burial of Mr Zachariah Chege Kiratu who was gunned down on July 28 by unknown people riding a motorbike.
Maragua MP Peter Kamande said it has taken the government two years and several killings to begin acting on the matter.
Eight directors of Kihiu Mwiri land buying company have been killed and three others are missing in what authorities attribute to a power struggle.
Mr Kimani said about Sh160 million had been made from fraudulent land sales.
“Of the 16 land certificates awarded, only one was found to be genuine. Corruption is killing our people,” the MP said.
On June 30, Paul Kaharu, also a director of the Kihiu Mwiri property was brutally murdered, prompting a probe by the Ministry of Lands into the ownership of the land.
Other directors of Kihiu Mwiri who have been killed in the last two years include Wilfred Gichana, Newton Chege Muhoro, Ngugi Kamau and Benson Ngumi.
Three others have mysteriously disappeared without any trace, namely: Henry Ngugi, Job Mwangi and James Kimaru mysteriously disappeared in 2014.
Last week, Inspector-General of police Joseph Boinnet and CID director Ndegwa Muhoro summoned the remaining directors of the firm to record statements at CID headquarters.
The IG warned that action will be taken against officers at CID headquarters and Makuyu Police Station who failed to take action after being tipped on the planned killing of Mr Chege and Mr Kaharu.
Meanwhile, a five-man team commissioner by Acting Lands CS Fred Matiang’i is in the final stages of investigations into the alleged land scams on the estate.
The team led by Director of Survey Cesare Mbaria and Lands Secretary Sarah Masaki has been authorised to subdivide the 1,085-acre land and allocate titles to shareholders by September 4.
