A family in Juja, Kiambu County, is desperately searching for 12-year-old Nellius Muthoni Mwatha who went missing on December 24 after being sent to buy breakfast.
Nellius is a Grade Six pupil at Muthara Primary School, preparing to transition to Junior Secondary School.
According to her mother Veronicah Wanjiku, Nellius left home on the morning of Christmas Eve as the family prepared to take her grandmother to hospital. She was sent to a nearby shop to buy breakfast—a routine errand she would normally complete quickly.
“After about 20 minutes, I knew something was wrong. She is fast and responsible. That’s when panic set in,” Ms Wanjiku said.
Tracing Nellius
At the time of her disappearance, Nellius was wearing a purple T-shirt and sky-blue shorts. The family said she was cautious around strangers, making her disappearance even more distressing.
Her father Charles Mwatha Njoroge, popularly known in the area as Chalo or Rasta wa Mchanga, said the family has searched the neighbourhood and surrounding areas without success. He added that the search has extended beyond Thika town as hopes remain high that she will be found safe.
The matter has been reported to Witeithie Police Station and residents have been urged to share any information that could help trace the missing child.
“We just want her home. If you have seen her, heard anything, even a rumour, please speak up,” Mr Mwatha appealed.
Anyone with information on Nellius Muthoni Mwatha’s whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest police station or reach the family directly.
Mr Mwatha can be reached on 0746 124 606, while Ms Wanjiku is available on 0794 744 396.
