Kenya has condemned the strikes on the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain in the ongoing Middle East crisis.

In a message on his social media accounts, President William Ruto on Monday said the regionalisation of the conflict poses a grave threat to international peace and security.

"At this defining and perilous moment in global history, longstanding multilateral institutions remain indispensable frameworks for the resolution of the current crisis in the Middle East. Kenya calls for urgent multi-stakeholder engagement towards de-escalation," President Ruto said.

In response to President Ruto's tweet in the morning, Iran's Ambassador to Kenya, Dr Ali Gholampour said bilateral relations between Kenya and Iran are still intact.

Dr Gholampour further said all countries bound by the UN Charter have a responsibility to call for de-escalation on the aggressors' side (in this context US and Israel).

The Ambassador said trade between Kenya and Iran has declined as a result of the numerous sanctions set by US on Iran, particularly in the banking sector.
