Nation Online has been rated the second most visited news site in Kenya despite having a paywall, as revealed in a report by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
The research drew respondents from educated English-speaking online news users in Kenya aged between 18 and 50 years and living in metropolitan areas.
According to its findings, 55% of people access Nation Online on a weekly basis with 32% doing so at least three days per week.
Citizen Digital, which offers its readers free content, was ranked first in the survey.
Nation Online, better known as Nation.Africa, is owned by the Nation Media Group (NMG).
Stephen Gitagama, the Chief Executive Officer at NMG, while acknowledging the ranking, promised readers of even more high-quality content this year and asked them to continue relying on Nation Online for all their news updates.
“It’s a sign that we’re doing the right thing. Nation.Africa is only one year old, so this ranking demonstrates that our content is superior and sits well with our consumers,” he added.
Churchill Otieno, the Head of Development and Learning at NMG, thanked the numerous Nation.Africa subscribers for their loyalty.
“This confirms that the Kenyan audience is yearning for quality journalism and readers are willing to pay for it,” he said.
