Nation Media Group’s Editor-in-Chief, Joe Ageyo, has been appointed a board member at the prestigious World Editors Forum (WEF) effective immediately.
His appointment comes alongside that of Hannah Sarney, the Editorial Product Director at the Financial Times in the UK and Veslemoy Hedvig, who is the Editor-in-Chief of Norway-based Altinget.
Mr Ageyo, who heads the Nation Media Group broadcast and editorial platforms, has experience spanning over 20 years where he has been a reporter, anchor, host, editor and recently, a media manager, has cut a niche for himself as an outstanding journalist in Kenya and the region.
Currently, he is steering NMG’s drive to develop audience-centred content for print, digital and electronic platforms at a time when the local media landscape is facing a dire need to shift from the traditional media channels to the largely versatile digital landscape.
The Forum, which is a community for professional editors within the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) will see Mr Ageyo working with world-class editors who are members of an advisory board made up of 26 editors, whose main aim is to uphold press freedom, quality journalism and newsroom transformation across the world.
This network will be of great importance to NMG as it will offer its top editors access to, and support from an international network of leading editors from over 120 countries.
Announcing the entry of Ageyo and the two other editors, Cherilyn Ireton, World Editors Forum Executive Director, expressed her delight in the trio’s acceptance to be part of the Forum’s Board.
“They join a special community of incredible editors who go all out to push journalism forward while standing firm on its core values,” she said.
She also announced the exit of Pamella Sittoni, former Group Managing Editor at NMG as well as that of Irene Halvorsen, who is the Director at Norway-based Det Norske Teatret.
