The National Police Service Commission has announced the promotion of 53 senior police officers.
Out of the 53 officers, five were promoted to the rank of senior assistant inspector-general and 32 to the rank of assistant inspector-general.
Sixteen officers were promoted to the rank of commissioner of police and installed in acting capacity for confirmation to the rank of assistant inspector-general within six months.
More promotions to the ranks of commissioner of police and senior superintendent of police will be announced in two weeks' time.
Former Nairobi County Police Commander Benson Kibui, Stephen Toroitich Chelimo and Zachary Kingori Mwangi, all serving under the Kenya Police Service, got promoted to the ranks of senior assistant inspector general of police (SAIG).
Their Administration Police counterparts, Peter Muriithi Macharia and Pamba Peter Musanga, who served as assistant inspectors-general, also were elevated to the position of SAIG.
Nairobi County Police Commander Japhet Koome is among the officers who have been promoted to the ranks of assistant inspector-general.
He will serve in the same capacity as former Nairobi Traffic Commandant Edward Mwamburi, Peter Mwanzia, Patrick Lumumba, Patrick Ochieng’, Fredrick Kadenge, Noor Yarow Gabow, Eusebius Laibuta and Rashid Abdullahi Yakub, among others.
Kenya Police spokesman Charles Owino Wahongo is among those who were promoted to the ranks of commissioner of police. He was also installed in acting capacity as an assistant inspector-general for a period of six months.
Also promoted to the same rank are Mary Wangui Omari and Rosemary Sipatan Kuraru, who are both serving in the Kenya Police Service.
Eleven officers from the Administration Police — Dismas Nyaanga Nyakundi, James Ajere Akoru, Paul Kipkorir Soi, Charles N. Karege, Dhadho Musa Kakawa, Chrispus Mutahi Makhutu, Jackson Dalo Kazungu, Jebel Munene Ngere, Gitahi Kanyeki, Gitari Njoka and Assenath Nthenya Kithuka — were also promoted to the same rank.
