Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday hosted key political figures at his Wamunyoro home where they declared that they will unite to send President William Ruto home in the 2027 elections.
People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua , her counterparts Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said they were willing to sacrifice their ambitions and have one candidate to face Dr Ruto.
Also present were former ministers Justin Muturi and Mithika Linturi, senators Richard Onyonka, (Kisii) Karungo wa Thang’wa, (Kiambu), John Methu (Nyandarua) and Kamau Murango (Kirinyaga), as well as MPs and MCAs from Mt Kenya, Ukambani and Kisii regions.

“Our being here today is a demonstration that we will all be united to liberate our country. We will not let Kenyans down because we are aware of the suffering you’re going through,” Ms Karua said.
Mr Gachagua said that the presence of leaders from across the country was a demonstration that the people of Mt Kenya region were not tribalists.
“President Ruto branded me a tribalist and tried to divide the people of the mountain but I stopped him. Today, it is clear that we the people of this region are ready to work with all Kenyans. From today we will go round the country and ensure that we bring all Kenyans on board,” Mr Gachagua said.
The former DP said he was ready to launch his new party and asked Kenyans to join the leaders present and make Dr Ruto a one term President.

Ms Karua added: “We must unite to liberate our country because President Ruto has ruined the nation. The other day, he went arresting journalists for doing a documentary on the killings in Parliament instead of bringing to justice the killers. We will make sure that nothing comes between us so that we stop this.”
Dr Matiang’i supported her, saying: “We will heed to the call of Kenyans. We will sacrifice our ambitions and ensure we liberate this country.”
Mr Linturi reiterated that he was not involved in the fertiliser scandal, adding that it was sanctioned from State House.
“I will avail all the documents pertaining to the scam because I cannot carry the blame,” he said.
As the leaders spoke at Wamunyoro, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi led five MPs from Mt Kenya region in rallying support for President Ruto’s broad-based government warning the region it risked staying in the cold for a long time
The MPs, led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, accused Mr Gachagua of betraying the region by leading the people out of government.

While speaking at a fundraiser in aid of AIPCA cathedral in Othaya, Nyeri County, Mr Mudavadi said that the UDA-ODM pact had made it easier for the Kenya Kwanza administration to deliver on its campaign promises.
“I was not a mad person when I decided to merge my ANC party with UDA , as Kenyans, let’s embrace unity and dialogue,” he said, telling residents of Mt Kenya region to reconsider their move to abandon “their government” .
He said other regions including his western backyard are waiting in the wings to fill the gap left by the region.
Mr Ichung’wa said he will unapologetically continue supporting President Ruto despite harsh criticism.
