Deputy President William Ruto has pledged to create four million jobs if elected President next year, with a Sh100 billion fund to jump-start housing and agro-processing.
The DP also promised to pump Sh50 billion into the economy to create opportunities for millions of jobless youth.
“This country has since independence embraced policies of trickle-down economics, which have completely failed. We must change the policies to a bottom-up model that will solve our problems,” he told supporters in Kericho yesterday.
He vowed to complete all dams, whose construction has stalled over alleged corruption.
He claimed that Itare, Bosto, Kimwarer, Londiani and Soin-Koru dams in the Rift Valley had stalled because of politics. He was speaking at Chebirirbei Primary School during a fundraiser for boda boda operators in Belgut Constituency. The DP pledged to finish “Big Four agenda” projects he said had been derailed by the 2018 political agreement between President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, dubbed the “Handshake”.
“I want to assure Kenyans that all the projects we rolled out will be completed next year,” he said, and urged voters to shun politicians who are out to amend the Constitution under Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and create extra executive positions for themselves instead of improving the economy.
During his tour of Kipkelion West and Belgut constituencies, Belgut MP Nelson Koech, Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, Senators Aron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Christopher Langat (Bomet), Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo-Marakwet) and Woman Reps Florence Bore (Kericho) and Joyce Korir (Bomet) accompanied him.
Others in tow were MPs Sylvanus Maritim (Ainamoi) Joseph Limo (Kipkelion East), Hillary Koskei (Kipkelion West), Kipsengeret Koros (Soin-Sigowet), Caleb Kositany (Soy), Dominic Koskei (Sotik), Beatrice Kones (Bomet East), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu), Johana Ng’eno (Emurua Dikirr) and Wilson Sossion (nominated).
