She spoke during the Azimio la Umoja convention at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi where Mr Odinga is expected to officially declare his candidature for the presidency.

Speaking in a stadium parked to the brim, Mrs Odinga said she was confident her husband is best placed to serve the country.

"To the people of Kenya, today, I release Raila to you," she said.

Having known him for a lifetime, Mama Ida Odinga said her husband has what it takes to lead Kenya as the fifth president.

"As a good friend and a dear husband, I know what he is capable of doing. What he has done for many years is the love for this nation," she said.

"He is capable of making Kenya a better nation," she added.
